Today our Year 2 Faith Team children passed the Nativity scene to our Year 3 Faith Team class as part of the La Pasada ceremony.
“La pasada” (or “Las Posadas”) refers to a popular nine-day Mexican and Latin American Christmas tradition (Dec 16-24) reenacting Mary and Joseph’s search for lodging in Bethlehem, involving processions, singing, prayer, and parties, but it can also simply mean “the past” or “the last time” in Spanish, depending on context. It’s a cultural and religious festival symbolizing perseverance and faith, featuring candlelit walks with figures of Mary and Joseph, ending with food and celebration.
The symbol of the Nativity will continue to be passed from class to class throughout this week.
