British Values and Democracy

As part of our focus on the British Value, Democracy, each class, (Year 1 – 6) has spent time this half term, talking in their classes and during Phase Collective Worship about what democracy is and why it is important.  We also learnt some of the key vocabulary related to elections and parliament. The children discussed the sorts of characteristics which make a successful parliamentarian and the roles in school those elected would be expected to carry out.  Each class then shortlisted four candidates.

Pupil Parliament will meet once a half term and they have already had their first meeting and have a list of objectives and ideas that they would like to carry through this academic year. The minutes from these meetings will be shared with pupils, advertised on the Pupil Parliament board, and posted on the school website.
