Lest we forget
On Monday 11th November 2024, Nutfield Church Primary School staff and children gathered in the village to join in the minute’s silence along with many parents, carers and our friends at the Royal British Legion.
We had readings from children before hearing the Bugle sound The Last Post. The sight and sound of a lone bugler playing the Last Post will be a familiar one. This mournful tune is played at Remembrance Day events and services across the Commonwealth.
Nutfield Church Primary School and those gathered for the service then completed the ceremony by observing a minutes silence in respect for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. A special thanks go to Father Len for hosting the lovely service. The children were amazing as always.
The Ode of Remembrance
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Thank you to our amazing team, parents and children.
