This week, Year 3 have been reading a fabulous book entitled “Leon and the Place Between” by Angela McAllister.

About “Leon and the Place Between”:

Leon and the Place Between is a story about a boy called Leon who attends a grand magic show with his skeptical brothers and sister (Tom, Pete, and Little Mo) to watch the famous magician, Abdul Kazam. Wanting to prove that magic is truly real, Leon volunteers to climb inside Abdul Kazam’s mysterious magic box. Instead of a simple trick, Leon is transported to a dazzling, hidden realm called “The Place Between”—the destination for everything a magician makes disappear.This surreal world is filled with floating playing cards, white doves, spinning coins, rings, ropes, cups, balls, and magician’s assistants.

After reading and discussing the book, the Year 3 children wrote their own stories based on this fun title and then read their stories to the Year 4 children. Both classes then sat together in groups to discuss the stories where the year 4 children gave their feedback to the authors and discussed what they enjoyed the most about the adaptations to the original book.
