Buddy Collective Worship
Thank you to everyone who came along to last week’s Buddy Collective Worship. It was wonderful to see our Year R parents and our Year 6 parents being able to meet. I am very proud of the children in Year 6 who have started the year off so well with their Buddies. The little ones in Year R were brilliant! Both classes were a real credit to their families and the school. Thank you to Miss Gibbins, Mrs Kendall, Miss Best and Miss Baber for making the children’s first few months so cohesive. The Buddy system is a very important feature of our school and we think helps us really embed our vision and values that everyone should flourish and live life in all its fullness. .
Remembrance Service
On Tuesday 11th November just before 11am, the whole school, community, the Royal British Legion, Father Paul, members of the local community and our parent/carer community, gathered outside the Village Church Hall to join in with the annual Remembrance Service. This very poignant service, led by Father Paul, included readings and poems read out by representatives of the Faith Team, before hearing the moving sound of ‘The Last Post’ by the musician. The sight and sound of a lone bugler playing the Last Post will be a familiar one to many. This mournful tune is played at Remembrance Day events and services across the Commonwealth. This was then followed by the community observing a minutes’ silence in respect for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. The service ended with the children all singing the beautiful ‘This is a Day to Remember’. Special thanks go to Father Paul for hosting the lovely service and to those who were able to join us. The children were amazing as always. Thank you also for your donations to the British Legion Poppy Appeal, which have raised £201.52.

Reading with a Pets as Therapy Dog at Nutfield Church C of E Primary School
We are delighted to announce that Nutfield Church C of E Primary School now has a Pets as Therapy (PAT) dog as part of our school community. This wonderful addition supports our vision inspired by John 10:10, to help pupil’s live life in all its fullness, including their learning journey. The dog (Barley) belongs to Reverend Len, who many of you already know very well.
The Benefits of Reading with a Therapy Dog:
Reading with a therapy dog offers unique advantages that enhance pupils’ literacy skills and emotional well-being:
1. Building Confidence and Reducing Anxiety
Pupils often feel less pressure and anxiety when reading aloud to a non-judgmental, calm animal. This safe environment helps boost their confidence and encourages more frequent and enthusiastic reading practice.
2. Improving Reading Fluency and Comprehension
The relaxed setting allows pupils to focus better, improving fluency and comprehension. The presence of the dog can make reading sessions feel less like a test and more like a friendly conversation.
3. Encouraging Positive Attitudes Towards Reading
Many pupils who struggle with reading or have low motivation find reading with a therapy dog enjoyable and rewarding. This positive experience fosters a lifelong love of reading and learning.
4. Supporting Emotional and Social Development
Interaction with the therapy dog promotes empathy, responsibility, and social skills. Pupils learn to care for and respect the animal, which can translate into positive relationships with peers and adults.
At Nutfield Church C of E Primary School, we are proud to integrate this innovative approach into our literacy programme, supporting every pupil to flourish academically and emotionally.
