The Expressive Arts have played a vibrant and integral role across the school throughout this academic year.
Every year group has engaged in a wide range of enriching experiences, either through educational visits or by welcoming specialist visitors into school. Many of these opportunities have been made more accessible thanks to financial support from the PTFA, alongside the usual voluntary parental contributions.
Polka Theatre:
In the Early Years and Key Stage 1, pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 took part in an engaging in-school workshop delivered by Polka Theatre, centred on the well-known tale Jack and the Beanstalk. Year 1 pupils also had the opportunity to visit the Polka Theatre to watch a production of There’s a Tiger in My Garden, further enriching their appreciation of live performance.
Stone Age Day:
In Key Stage 2, Year 3 pupils experienced a ‘Stone Age Day’, exploring this historical period through creative approaches including art and drama. Year 4 pupils also visited the Polka Theatre to see The Fire Maker’s Daughter, and deepened their historical understanding through immersive Roman and Egyptian themed days incorporating drama, art and design technology.
Tate Gallery:
Year 5 pupils benefited from a rich programme of experiences. They visited the Tate Gallery to view an exhibition of Picasso’s work, attended a performance of The Boy at the Back of the Class at the Rose Theatre, and watched a dress rehearsal of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at St Bede’s. In addition, four Year 5 pupils represented the school at Christ’s Hospital School during a dedicated Performing Arts Day. The school also welcomed Spring Dance, who delivered a powerful in-school workshop using contemporary dance to explore the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. Year 6 visited the Polka Theatre to watch a production of Who Let the God’s Out?
Alongside these experiences, extra-curricular opportunities such as Choir, Drama Club, Recorder Club and Orchestra have remained popular, culminating in end-of-term concerts that celebrate pupils’ talents.
Forthcoming Events:
We look forward to key upcoming events including the Art Exhibition on 6th and 7th July, the Summer Concert on Thursday 9th July, and the Year 6 production on 14th and 15th July.
