We are learning all about the work of the police this week. We have been reading ‘Cops and Robbers’ by Allan Ahlberg and have made ‘Wanted’ pasters to catch ‘Snatcher Jack’ and villianious ‘Grandma Swag.’
The children have enjoyed imaginative play in our classroom police station. They have had the opportunity to dress up in police costumes, take finger prints and investigate the disappearance of toys from the classroom.
We have also started to write our own innovated versions of ‘Cops and Robbers’ in preparation for the more sustained writing tasks they will meet in Year 1. We have also continued to learn about the Fire and Rescue Service.
Children have been collaging pictures of fires using tissue paper and learning all about ‘The Great Fire of London’ in our Understanding the World’ lesson. We learnt how the Great Fire of London was eventually brought under control and observed the differences between fire rescue in the past and our modern day fire service.
