This week, Year 4 enjoyed a fabulous visit from a real life Roman Legionaire! Quintus Cerialis, the Legatus of the ninth legion during Boudica’s revolt in Britannia.
The children took a step back in time and had the opportunity to wear and hold realistic Roman soldier attire. This activity was in conjunction with our current history topic on The Roman Empire. Also during the day, thew children roleplayed various scenes from Roman parties through to everyday scenarios.
As part of their induction for the day, they had to swear their allegiance to their Emperor Ceasar Bowen and perform military drills by following instructions in Latin. At the close of the day, they began to create their own Roman shields that will be exhibited at the annual Art Expo later this year.
We took some pictures of the day, which can be seen in the gallery below. Please click on the thumbnails for a larger view.
