In Art class, the Year 5 children have learnt about the artist Vincent Van Gogh.
Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over a decade, he created approximately 2100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life.
For our homage to this great artist, we looked at his painting entitled “Starry Night”. Inspired by the view from his window at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy, in southern France, where the artist spent twelve months in 1889–90 seeking reprieve from his mental illnesses, The Starry Night (made in mid-June) is both an exercise in observation and a clear departure from it.
We have continued with our pictures and layering paint to create a Van Gogh inspired piece of work. This has taken us two afternoons this week! Here are our talented artists displaying their work. Please click on the thumbnails below for a larger view.
