Online Safety is an important part of our Computing Curriculum at our school. Children across the school have termly online safety lessons. Key Stage 1 children follow the Purple Mash scheme which introduces them to the basic ideas of staying safe online such as: passwords, reporting to adults and what to do if you feel unsafe online at home and at school.
The children will take part in these lessons this half term. Children in Key Stage 2 follow Google’s ‘Be Internet Legends’ scheme of work. The scheme has 5 fundamental pillars that are taught in different lessons throughout the Key Stage: Be Internet Sharp, Be Internet Alert, Be Internet Secure, Be Internet Kind and Be Internet Brave. All Key Stage 2 classes have taken part in their online safety lessons this term and enjoyed their lessons. There is an online game to accompany the scheme of work called ‘Interland’, to embed the children’s learning. The children might play this game during their lesson or it will be set as homework.
Tips for Parents and Carers:
- Do talk to your children about apps they use and games they play.
- Know how to disable chat functions or put Parental Restrictions in place.
- Ensure your child knows the person they are talking to whilst playing games.
- Keep up to date with emerging technology.
Our school Online Safety page has lots of tips and tricks to help and ‘Posters for Parents’ on the children’s favourite games.
