This term our topic is ‘Sea and Sand.’ We have started off by reading ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s lunch’ by Ronda and David Armitage.
In Literacy the children were tasked with sequencing the first half of the story and writing words, a phrase or a sentence to describe each scene in the story. In the Art room the children enjoyed making collar’s for the Lighthouse Keeper’s cat, Hamish.
They also made lighthouses using paper cups. In the outside area there was a zip wire set up where children could fill up a basket of food and send it from the cottage across the sea to the lighthouse on the otherside.
The children were also encouraged to make their very own mustard sandwiches to scare away the seagulls! During this task the children had the opportunity to practise their fine motor skills by spreading the mustard and margarine on the bread and cutting it up into triangles.
Unlike the story, no sandwiches were fed to the birds, however!
