Year 5 have been learning to find equivalent fractions this week. Equivalent fractions are the fractions that have different numerators and denominators but are equal to the same value. For example, 2/4 and 3/6 are equivalent fractions, because they both are equal to the ½. A fraction is a part of a whole. Equivalent fractions represent the same portion of the whole.
To find equivalent fractions there is a rule:
- Whatever you do to the top, you do to the bottom.
This means that if you multiply your numerator by 2, you must multiply your denominator by 2 as well.
