This term we have begun our new book ‘The Boy in the tower’ by Polly Ho-Yen. This book was shortlisted for the Blue Peter Book Award and was runner up in the Teach Primary New Children’s Fiction Award in 2015.
The book deals with themes such as isolation, depression and loneliness, providing a relatable context and a safe space within which to explore these concepts with children. With modern day links to The Day of the Triffids, Polly Ho-Yen has created an engaging, dystopian narrative through which children will develop their skills of inference and deduction.
Their learning with this text will mainly focus on their Reading and Comprehension skills in preparation for SATs. This week we have looked at four different question types: Meaning of a word; who, what ,where and why; give one reason to support your answer and circle the correct answer.
