As part of our Bronze Age topic, Year 3 designed and made a roundhouse.
Roundhouses were the standard form of housing built in Britain and Ireland from the Bronze Age throughout the Iron Age, and in some areas well into the Sub Roman period. The people built walls made of either stone or of wooden posts joined by wattle-and-daub panels, and topped with a conical thatched roof.
As a group we discussed the materials we would need and how we would make it. Then we wrote out the steps of our design and drew pictures to illustrate it.
Finally in 3 groups, we went out and collaborated as a team with a designated team captain to make our roundhouses. Some adaptions were made during this process.
We took some pictures of our amazing Roundhouses, which can be seen in the gallery below. Please click on the thumbnails for a larger view.
