This week in the EYFS classroom we are celebrating Chinese New Year.
In the Classroom:
Chinese food:
We have been learning about Chinese food and made a sushi roll out of black paper, cotton wool and lolly sticks.
Using chopsticks:
We have been practising our fine motor skills by trying to pick up red and yellow noodles using chopsticks.
Maths:
In Maths we are learning about doubling. We have been making doubles by placing the same amount of pompoms on each side of the butterfly’s wings.
Chinese Take-Away:
This week our classroom shop turned into a ‘Chinese take-away.’ The children enjoyed taking orders from each other and using yellow wool to create bowls of noodles for their customers.
Outdoor Learning:
Egg box dragon:
2024 is the Chinese Year of the dragon. To celebrate we made dragons out of egg boxes, paint and craft materials.
Learning Chinese numbers:
We have been learning how to recognise numbers 1 – 10 in Chinese. We had 10 take-away boxes with a Chinese number on the front and we needed to add the correct amount of pompoms to it.
Printing:
We have been using red and yellow paint to print pictures of traditional Chinese images.
Writing numbers in the sand:
We have been practising our fine motor skills by writing Chinese numbers in red sand.
