Our Early Years children enjoyed another fun packed day of learning this Monday with lots of Christmas themed activities.
Stick People
This week our literacy focus has been on Julia Donaldson’s tale ‘Stick Man.’ In EAD we have been making our own stickman families. Children used sticks they had foraged for then added googly eyes and pipe cleaners to create their own stick people. Children then took their stick people for a wintery walk around the school grounds and we thought about the adventures our stick people would get up too.
Writing Postcards from Stickman
In our Literacy focus group this week, the children thought about all the predicaments Stickman found himself in throughout the book. The children chose one of these setting to write a postcard in the role of Stickman to his Stick Lady Love and his Stick Children Three.
Christmas Service at Christ Church
On Thursday 14th of December Reception joined the whole school for the annual Christmas Service at Christ Church. We sung carols, listened to readings and a talk given by Revd Len and performed one of our favourite songs from the Nativity – Spread the Word.
Elf Gift Wrapping Station
Children enjoyed wrapping up boxes with Christmas paper in our gift wrapping station. This was great practise for their fine motor skills as they had to use both scissors and sellotape to complete the task. Once the parcels were wrapped the children wrote labels and delivered them.
Christmas Shop
Our class shop turned into a Christmas shop this week. The children enjoyed arranging the Christmas decorations to sell in the shop and writing price labels. Thank you to all the donations of Christmas decorations and baubles.
Christmas Dinner!
The children were given different coloured balls of playdoh to create their own ‘Christmas Diner’ with. They were also given paper plates and plastic knives and forks to practise cutting it up too.
Gallery
We of course took lots of pictures of our young learners, which can be seen in the gallery below. Please click on the thumbnails for a larger view.
