This week we are starting a new topic: sand and sea. We have started off the term by reading the well-loved book ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s lunch’ by Ronda and David Armitage. All our activities in the EYFS classroom this week are based around the book and lighthouses.
In the Classroom:
- In PSED we have been looking at different types of food and deciding which foods we would put in a lunchbox to make a healthy meal for Mr Grinling.
- We have been designing our own ‘yucky’ sandwiches to feed the seagulls, just like Mrs Grinling’s mustard sandwiches!
- We have been making lighthouses out of paper cups.
- We have been using our Maths skills to make lighthouses out of interlocking cubes.
Outdoor Learning:
- We have been practising our fine motor skills by making mustard sandwiches for the seagulls!
- We made a cat collar for Hamish.
- We printed with potatoes to create lighthouses.
- We recreated a scene from the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s lunch’ by sending Hamish on zip wire from the cottage on the cliffs to Mr Grinling’s lighthouse.
- We have been practising our number formation from 1 – 20 with chalks, water and paintbrushes.
