Post Office:
This week in Literacy, we have been enjoying the well-loved story ‘The Jolly Postman’ by Allan Ahlberg. The school shop turned into a post office and the children were encouraged to write a Christmas card to someone in the class or someone in their family. Each Christmas card needed to be put in an addressed envelope before being taken to the post office for a stamp. They were then ‘posted’ in the Jolly Postman’s postbox and children took turns to deliver them, using the special postman’s costume.
Maps of the Jolly Postman’s Journey:
This week in Literacy, we have been enjoying the well-loved story ‘The Jolly Postman’ by Allan Ahlberg. Children have been recreating the journey of the Jolly Postman on large sheets of sugar paper and images from the book.
Melted Snowman:
In EAD (Expressive Arts and Design) this week, children were encouraged to make their own melted snowmen using a mixture of PVA glue and shaving foam. They then added accessories to their snowman, such as a hat, carrot nose, scarf and googly eyes.
Reindeer Soup:
The children were asked to make a ‘reindeer soup’ using seasonal vegetables such as sprouts, potatoes, parsnips and carrots. They practised their fine motor skills by using a rubber knife to chop the vegetables up to make a soup.
Helping Santa pack his sacks:
The children were asked to help Santa pack three of his sacks this week. Each of the sacks were labelled with the items they needed. The children had to use their phonic knowledge to decode the words and find the correct item to go in the sack.
