This week our activities our based around the book ‘The Night Pirates’ by Peter Harris.
In the classroom:
- The children were given an image of a pirate ship and asked to label the key parts using their phonics knowledge.
- The children have enjoyed pirate themed imaginative play this week as the tuff tray turned into a ‘treasure island.’
- Children were asked to write their own message in a bottle and send it out to sea.
- This week children practised their sewing skills by sewing two pieces of fish shaped felt together.
- In Maths we have been retelling the story of ‘Mouse Count.’ Children re-enacted ‘first, then, now’ by getting the snake to add more mice to his jar.
Outdoor Learning:
- Children hunted for hidden treasure in the sandpit and were encouraged to count the items they had found.
- Children imagined they were ‘walking the plank’ but had to be careful not to fall into the shark infested water below.
- Children made their own treasure maps, using tea-stained paper and pirate images.
