It’s another wet Monday morning at Nutfield Church Primary School; however, our amazing Reception class are here bright and breezy, ready to get stuck into some fun learning.
Literacy:
Our book this week is ‘Little Red’ by Lynn and David Roberts. This is a highly imaginative and unusual spin on the Little Red Riding Hood is set in the late eighteenth century. Children were encouraged to create baskets for Little Red Riding Hood to take to her grandmother and label each item using their phonemes.
EAD:
Children used bark to create a wood scene for Little Red Riding Hood to walk through.
Maths:
This week in Maths we have been learning about the composition of numbers 1 – 5. We used the well-loved story; The Hungry Caterpillar’ to help us with our recognition of these numbers. Children were encouraged to create their own ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ food diary, using the foods that the Hungry Caterpillar ate on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Tuff Tray:
Children enjoyed re-telling the story of Little Red Riding Hood in the Small World area.
Cinderella:
In our Understanding the World lesson, we have also been looking at the Fairytale Cinderella this week. Through the traditional tale of Cinderella, we have been learning about differences in the past. For example, we talked about how Cinderella cleaned the house and how we might clean the house now. Children were given themed pink glitter playdough to practise their fine motor skills with.
- Children made magic wands using sticks. They decorated their sticks with strings and ribbons.
- Children practised their fine motor skills by planting pumpkin seeds
